Afterward they migrate to the Pacific Ocean waters where they bulk up and prepare for their once in a lifetime spawning run up the freshwater stream where they were born. These fish seem to be fine and swim readily when released. And as far as I know the Wisconsin salmon are landlocked Pacific salmon, and will die after they have spawned - so as long as we release them unharmed to continue their task, I have a hard time imagining that this does any damage.
